The main requirement for home networking is the availability of CAT5 wiring in the home. If the wiring is not there one could use a RF network hub similar to the one now be offered by Apple.

I am currently installing a home network consisting of a XDSL Modem
, Server and 12:1 10/100 ethernet hub in star network over CAT5 wiring.

I hope this eliminates the problems I have been having with low speed networks and multiple unreliable ISP's.
