Sorry for the oversight, I thought that anyone noting the broad historic trends cited would realize that I was using the term in its wider sense...Actually, since I read any number of conservative publications, and go to conservative conferences, I think it is fair enough to try to summarize what is at the core of the phenomenon. Obviously, I could still be wrong, but equally obviously, I do not need to be a mind reader to take a stab at it...Actually, by my characterization of conservatives as knowing that it was hopeless to go all the way back, I suppose I thought that it would be clear that I was making a distinction between conservatives and reactionaries...
