A question on usage/pronunciation.
This morning on NPR I heard an announcer use the phrase "an historic occasion" Both the n and the h were sounded out. That strikes me as sounding "not right". Is "a historic..." incorrect? If "an historic" is not simply an archaism, would it be ok or even preferable to render the h silent?
