Is any evidences showing that China is ready to adopt CDMA?

Here is a relative newbie view of things based on reading this thread:

CDMA makes a lot of sense for China because of its efficiency vs GSM and China's high urban population density. But the existing network in China is GSM and the dominant phone company runs it. An upstart chinese phone company (UNICOM) has declared that it will use CDMA, but it will probably require investment dollars (from Q ?) to proceed with serious expansion. The Chinese are not known to give away the store; in fact, just the opposite.
