Well done you guys ! Keep the info flowing. This weekend I ran across several references to Fuel Cells. CNN had a story last night(I caught the last three minutes) on how fuel cells are making their way into power generation for police stations, hospitals and office buildings. The company mentioned was Plug Power. I don't know whether others were mentioned. The Silicon Valley North (Vol 2 No.11, August 99) has two different articles mentioning GLE. The first is titled "Oil and gas sector finally sees a need for cleaner energy" and the other, "Solid oxide fuel cells have much potential", both by Aaron Evans (aevans@silvan.com). The articles cover what is generally known on this thread about GLE products (remote power, SOFC etc). Two paras from the article worth quoting are: " [William Gunter, PhD, group leader for the Alberta Research Council] believes fuel cells used for remote oil and gas refineries and stations will eliminate a large volume of emissions, an idea that Global has focused on. It's developing a cell for use in remote power applications, says Perry. 'Our primary target is remote power, because size and weight aren't a constraint.' This application allows for more freedom in development than an automotive system, since space in a car design is a valuable commodity. " Although Global is interested in other markets for its technology, Perry says he feels the company doesn't have the capability on its own to break into mass market applications such as the automotive industry. 'We're actively pursuing alliances for mass markets'. Perry cannot commit to the market availability of Global's fuel cell power supplies, although he did predict 'fairly quickly'."
