To made your assertion, one factor you probably forgot to include into your consideration. Your assumption is that Adative Silicon has a working FPGA core that is functionally competitive to what Xlnx (and Altr) has. To me, it is questionable, since the performance of Fpga devices is highly depending upon the architecture of the circuit as well as the implemetation of the place-rout software. With the patents held by Altr and Xlnx (and other companies) on the FPGA circuit, it would be hard for any late comer to come out with a totally different architecture that can work without any compromising.

Also, I was told LSI approached both Altr and Xlnx and tried very hard to set up a business allies with them two years ago. However, it never worked out. Then, Lsi decided to go with ASi. Do you think Altr and Xlnx would turn it down if they don't have confidence in their future. So, please be practical on this issue.
