Do you know with any certainty that the MSOs have altered their interactive channel delivery plans, utilizing the upper end of the spectrum?

I doubt they have. I have no personal knowledge. Though someone must know it must be done, the obvious wont happen until the market pounds it down their throats. Give it 3 years before things even start to change in the cablelabs "plan".

And if what you say is true, then how do you rationalize the separations between any individual MSO and ATHM?
The way I see it the MSO is still the owner and maintainer of the wires and the first point of contact with the customer. They have something valuable in the wires and will make a profit whether the lines carry analog TV or broadband IP. They are the "dumb pipe". Face it-- thats all they ever have been despite delusions of grandeur. TWX excepted of course.

Fortunately there is good money in being a dumb pipe if you have a better pipe than anyone else.

How the transition process will occur is completely a mystery to me. I know it will be unbelievably slow and painful.
