Tue 3 Aug 99 News Release
Mr. Denis Clement reports
On Aug. 2, 1999, Dumont completed four holes of an initial five drill hole
program on the eastern extension of the Raglan horizon. Drilling confirmed
that the stratigraphic sequence at LR6 and LR7 was identical to the
volcano-stratigraphic sequence seen to the west hosting Falconbridge's
Katinniq and Donaldson deposits. While massive sulphide intercepts were not
encountered in the first four holes (totalling 910 metres), drilling
confirmed that stacked ultramafic flow sequences were in contact with
variably carbonaceous footwall sediments at the LR6 and LR7 targets. The
results are sufficiently encouraging to maintain an aggressive program on
this highly productive horizon.
LR6 and LR7 are on the most westerly five kilometres of Dumont's property.
Dumont is currently refining drill targets along the Raglan horizon to the
east of LR6 and LR7. After finishing the fifth hole, drilling is expected
to resume in about one week as further targets are prioritized.
Dr. Jon North, vice-president, exploration, in a statement said: "Drilling
has positively confirmed that the physical volcanology of the Raglan
Horizon -- stacked ultramafic flows, asymmetric metamorphism with minor
disseminated sulphides -- is present on Dumont's property. Given the short
time-window, we have only explored five kilometres out of 65 kilometres to
date, leaving another 60 kilometres of highly prospective stratigraphy
still to be evaluated. Dumont's priority is to immediately evaluate the
reconnaissance targets, with the objective of continued drilling this
season if warranted."
