I would question just how big IBM is in the internet.

They are a very big wannabe (ie They advertise a lot on TV so everybody thinks they are big).

The last few web conventions I went to IBM was there trying to sell their web solutions but nobody was listening.

Too proprietary and scary.

Also, IBM products are the Solomon Grundy's of the computer world (Solomon Grundy: born on monday, married on wed, dead on friday). In other words, IBM will sell something to you and then kill it without a second thought.

Not that many people seem to be using IBM.
Let's ask IBM about their offerings:
Dial up service? Well,...we're not that big.
Cable internet? I'm not a cable business!
DSL? I'm not a phone company!
Satellite? Nope.
Wireless? Not really.
Web portals? Don't own any.
Entertainment Portals? Ahhh...forget it.

Didn't IBM report recently that they lost over one billion in the desktop computer department?

IBM cash cow (IMHO):
IBM makes big money with big business. They are the only business in the world that can handle some jobs. CPQ with Digital was going to challenge them in the mainframe/big project market but so far has failed to make a big dent.

I thought I read once that IBM files more patents in one year than any other business in the world.
