To Thread: Sun Microsystems Inc (SUNW)
(Reuters 05:12 AM ET 08/02/99)
An alliance between SUN MICROSYSTEMS INC and AMERICA ONLINE INC's Netscape said it expects a 75% increase in customers in Asia in its 1999/2000 (July-June) financial year. "We expect growth rate somewhere in the region of 75% year-on-year throughout the region," Stephen Furney-Howe, vice president for the Sun-Netscape Alliance in Asia Pacific, told a news conference. He said there were "hundreds of customers" in Asia using the two companies' electronic commerce products, which were grouped together last month under a single brand called i-Planet.

[MAJC seems to be a very creative design and yet a very conservative business approach with virtually no financial risk involved. Good Job! ]

Yep! You summed up Scott & his team's management approach very well!

[But he did mention it is media processor for consumer market optimized for java/jini applications. Set-top box etc would be primary market for this chip.]

I've wondered how java/jini would be managed. I know people have talked about set-top boxes for years. I watch very little tv. I don't even have cable so it has been difficult for me to imagine how I would use a set-top box that would help organize my life and run my household.

Now that I've thought about the idea: I like it!

Eric, thanks so much for a summary of Scott's interview.

Best wishes,

Mephisto

PS: Can you explain a "tracking stock"? Would its income be reported as part of Sun's income?

Anybody thinks AOL is getting in an attractive range to start building a position. I have wanted to own it for sometime, but can't pull the trigger. SUNW ad INTC seems to be withstanding the tech carnage quite well.

Comments on other possible bargains in the Net (nut) sector. I own USWB and ENTU in this sector currently

Regards
