Chuck, FWIIW, I use to deal with Schwab before internut came about and know a couple people that still do. Schwab usually does better executions if you can get ahold of 'em - I know from 2 trades where I exchanged notes and my trade was in first (by quite a few minutes) at brown and at the same price. They got a fill and I was shut out.

There are other things I could say, good and bad. If you are just looking for a back up, then I could say yes. Keep a core of long term stocks and bonds there that you don't plan on trading, for the cash value. Then run into margin for executing trades on the bad Schwab days and cross clear things up after the dust settles. Follow me?
