Every time a stock like CUST comes along, some "long", after the fact, says something like, "Yeah, I bought it ____ months/years ago at _____ (usually less than $2). I sold it when it was ____ (usually more than $90). I have no position now but am just observing."

Right. And I shorted CUST at 90 and covered at 27. I have no short position right now but am just observing.
