tonto,
""Was the rep you spoke with male or female? ""
I spoke with two reps, both male. One reports to a female and the other to a male. Interesting marketing approach. One of my contacts works out of corp headquarters or regional office, not sure which. He is walking the beeper up the ladder. The other rep. has discussed it with his boss and she is excited about it. He won't give her the package from the company or the beeper because he wants to be in control so it doesn't get lost under paperwork somewhere. He will demonstrate the product, talk about it, anything but give it up.
I talked with a Public Health nurse who talked about how much effort they expend trying to get people to take their meds. Many people are on a call list at med time, others need a daily visit. She told me many times the lack of medication results in a hospital visit and extended stay to get the patient back on track.
On a sadder note, a friend of mine told me that her mother is now legally blind because she forgot to take her scheduled diabetis (sp) meds.
Considering the cost of the "beeper" it makes sense for the pharmas to give them away with the scrip. I will reiterate my notion that this is the first giveway for patients. Imagine that, something for the customer rather than the Dr.
