"A solid Sign of Inflation?"

We've had it for some time. It so often occurs to me how difficult it is to compare inflation in different time periods and how much of today's talk is smoke and mirrors.

For example, you can look at the agricultural component of crb and say we haven't risen in twenty years, but in fact some farmers get subsidies. So the cost of subsidies (i.e., the cost of govt a.k.a. taxes) is also part of the "price" of these commodities, and to the extent they (taxes) have risen, should be included in the CPI. (Of course, I don't believe taxes are included in the CPI, and all this nitpicking methodology stuff would probably hurt the new era types' heads if they thought about it too much anyway, so we'll just keep this between you and me.)
