** OT ** sunny, when a message is clearly marked as ** OT **, everyone on the thread does not have to read it... especially that the first few words of the post are displayed in the posts listings... so, for someone to post and clearly mark a posting as OT should not be such a drag, wouldn't you agree?

I posted some OT posts that were clearly marked as such... you, and everyone else did not have to read beyond the first few words that appear in the posts listings...only if curious, or had some free time...

and FYI, I am holding CMGI not for it's DSP and all that, but don't mind, actually let me correct that, do like getting 100 shares of any of CMGI's DSP... and my previous posts re. that matter were merely to position myself the best way I know how for that purpose... soliciting opinions from others' experiences on a message board is the best way to get to the bottom of things really fast...

now why did I post on the CMGI thread ? well, because it was a CMGI DSP and the origin of it all... again, no one was obliged to read the uninformative postings...

best regards
amein

sunny, I am not a professional trader, but a small investor. My basis for CMGi is a very near 75 average. I am waiting for it to reach that level. When it does, I will buy more because I don't intend on selling CMGi for several years.

I have been slowly building my CMGi holdings since last January and have benefited from two splits and one IPO (ENGA).

We are experiencing a significant drop in favor for the internet sector as a whole. There was a time when I would have bet that the internet stock euphoria (bubble) would go on for a long time to come. Wow, was I wrong! People were making tons of money in net stocks and considering the factor of human greed, why would they stop? I forgot that there are those out there who are capable of moving markets and, for whatever reason, they have burst the bubble. Now, there aren't any serious buyers out there. Confidence in the sector has dropped and few want to buy. I don't consider this to be a problem with CMGi, but with the sector and market psychology as a whole. Interest rate fears and Y2K concerns are driving this market down. It will take some positive resolutions in those areas to bring it back.

I am staying in because the market is cyclical and eventually, the sector should move back into a favorable position. Soon after the first of the year.

Jim

That's what the SI ENGA thread is for. The problem with valuing this stock is that it is essentially a closed end fund holding publicly traded stocks, which can be valued, non-public ventures, which we cannot value, and "deal flow" or "synergy" or whatever you want to call the ability to buy Alta Vista and use it to enhance ENGA. It is a tough valuation issue. In the end, I guess that you just take the public holdings and value those and call the rest of it a "premium" to the public holdings. Does anyone know the answer to the first question--what are the public holding of CMGI and what is their value?

Agree with you on flipping IPOs and the discussion of WIT are ancillary topics; however, with all the problems with the first DSP, this board was a great help to me.

I do think that the discussion of DSPs is important. The DSP is a good way for CMGI (and investors) to value cmgi assets and attract capital - thus I am interested in the DSP discussion. After CMGI stills owns significant portions of the IPOs (e.g. 80% engage); secondary offerings could be expected. The business model of cmgi is unique as well as the dsp.
