If that were the sum of it, I would actually have no problem. Have you ever read Roland Barthes, particularly "Mythologies"? This is a seminal short text in "semiotics", the upshot of which is to continually analyze photos in mass circulation magazines and business on tv in order re- iteratively to assert that certain ideological constructs have been "naturalized", and to reveal the hegemony of bourgeois culture over the working class. After a while, it becomes tedious, predictable, and unconvincing, unless one is convinced of the Gramscian premise at the outset.....
