Never cared for jazz (except for the original New Orleans variety), or for the Village, either. And I was an early-married woman.

In the '50's, I lived in a cold water flat (tub in the kitchen, no heat) in what was then the Polish-Ukrainian section of town. After the artists started moving in from the Village (it was getting much too expensive), they redubbed the section the "East Village." Nah. It was always one of New York's Immigrant Reservations.

And when I was in grad school (in the '60's), I commuted in to Columbia from a mountain in Connecticut. Missed most of the fun that way. The fun included the student strike. :-(
