Aug 03, 1999 (Tech Web - CMP via COMTEX) -- First quarter 1999 figures
from Dataquest place Dell for the first time as the U.S. market leader
in workstations runningboth Pentium-class processors and theWindows NT
operating system. Dell now holds the No. 2 spot in worldwide NT
workstation shipments, according to Dataquest.

Meanwhile, Dell said it plans to announce price cuts Tuesday of as much
as 16.6 percent on select configurations of Dell Precision
WorkStations. Dell said it will also offer the Intel 600-MHz Pentium
III processor on both the 210 and 410 versions of Precision
WorkStation.

Dell also said Monday that it plans to invest $33 million for a 5
percent stake in Fast Search & Transfer ASA, a Web search-engine
company based in Norway. The companies said they plan to co-develop a
search engine, targeting the search application that drives
capabilities for ISPs in the consumer market, said a Dell spokesman.

"Dell isn't looking to replace portals such as Yahoo, Excite, or
Lycos," he said, "but simply become the search engine behind the
portal."

The spokesman said the companies plan to finalize their agreement
within a 45 days. He said Dell is also looking for opportunities in
search technology in the business market.

<<Now Hal isn't that smart to know where the bottom is.>>

Well, I'm stupid enough to say that DELL won't go below 36 before turning around.
