<<George Bell, the ever-tan and vibrant president of ExciteAtHome (ATHM: news, msgs), said he knew he was in for "a long day" when the parking valet asked him whether his company would be gobbled up by search page giant Yahoo (YHOO: news, msgs). In front of about 300 money managers at the BancBoston Robertson Stephens innovations conference on Tuesday, Bell then shot down reports that the two companies were thinking about getting hitched. "There's no truth to the rumors of an acquisition," Bell said. He declined to field questions about the report after his keynote address. However, he did allow himself a bit of a zinger during his presentation. After the technical glitches blocked his second attempt at a broadband demonstration, Bell quipped, "You'd think with all the money I pay (BancBoston Robertson Stephens), they could get screens that work." Senior Internet analyst Keith Benjamin smiled in good spirit as the money managers laughed.>>

You have to admit, Bell is pretty smooth! The key here is in how he phrased it ("There's no truth to the rumors of an acquisition,"). He said 'acquisition', notice he didn't say that it hadn't been discussed or that something else was not in the works. We also know that they DID say they were in talks with their competitors in a previous release. I am certain they are not all sitting down together swapping baseball cards. Something sparked this rumor for sure and it will be interesting to see where it leads.

Right now the market seems to be falling apart but we all know how quickly things can turn around. I must admit, I like all of the excitement........
