Skeeter -- a slightly different take: Sentiment matters most when there is little basis for a move -- an unfounded concern resulting in an over-reaction is the best example. Negative sentiment does not matter when the overall tendency is to under-estimate the true extent of the threat to the market. Mark is the best example on this thread -- he seems to assume there is no basis for a break with the patterns of the last few years, and waits for the patterns to reassert themselves. This is the profile of people who sell late or get crushed by holding on and on -- as Mark tells Tom D -- be brave etc.
