Les,

RFK is closely associated with the civil rights movement for many reasons and by many people. Much of the initial work and momentum of
the movement was done by Kennedy(and of course others like MLK, Medger Evers, etc.)
His association with that movement in the minds of many people(if not a vast majority) was made by his actions in life, not after his death.

Les, I lived the major portion of my life in Central Texas,mainly south central, and knew a number of people who personally knew LBJ. According to what I heard back in the '6os was that he quite often used the dreaded N word and looked down on the black people as good for servant duties only. His push for the civil rights bill was strictly a political move on his part IMO. TD
