Jan -- I take your point -- but lets imagine that a few hundred billion dollars walked out the door -- remember, prices are set at the margin. The impact? On-line traders would at first trade into the decline, and with every trade they would loose money until they started to hurt (eg. AMZN coming down from north of 200) with the result being that they got squeezed out or had the good sense to back off and wait. The nets are the canary in the coal mine -- but the bad air will choke everybody in the mine -- just a little more slowly.
