That's right, you had explained the concept of a rebate to me previously....sorry.

Since you state that Merrill & Pershing have the largest vaults, it appears that having brokers that clear through these two firms would give one the best options when shorting. Its not hard to find one that uses Pershing, but I'm unsure about Merrill. Do you know if any brokers clear through Merrill besides Merrill Lynch itself?
