They quit the PC Microprocessor chip business that was bleeding red ink and eventually sold it.

Indeed, (and playing the devil's advocate) NSM was able to do this by shedding their microprocessor division, discontinue competing directly with iNTEL; and concentrating on their other very profitable divisions. A set of options that, the last time that I checked, are not open to AMD. However, I am looking for that sudden move UP nonetheless.

NSM made a huge move up, after they announced their departure from
the x86 market. Are you suggesting that AMD is on the verge of doing the same :)
