Hey wnyone consider the fact that WCOM and QWST might be a good match? With QWST management setting up there stock for a hostile takeover, and WCOM stock trading at high multiples (although not as high as a few weeks ago.) It would be interesting as they could take out a competitor in long distance, grab wireless assets from USW and increase the customer base. WCOM will obviously have to sell off some assets to do this but at this juncture 40 bucks a share is the typical WCOM pennies on the dollar offer.

" ..are you aware of any players looking to utilize wireless for anything other than LAN related, wireless voice (Cellular/PCS) or last mile access (not counting satellite)? If so, which companies and for what purposes?"

Other than LAN, Cell/PCS, last mile...? You covered a lot of territory there, HVN. What's left?

Utilities use wireless for telemetry (SCADA Systems) to measure loads on electrical power generation and transmission systems, and their outlying substations, transmission lines, etc. Wireless is also used as a primary means of monitoring and controlling a plethora of other industrial and even some residential situations, including water purity monitoring in reservoirs and water supplies, railroad and highway traffic system monitoring and controls, utility service usage measuring at the residence and business, security alarms of all types, and an endless list of other purposes.

For a list of those companies providing these services you can do a search listing any of the above functions plus wireless sales, as the key words. Maybe I didn't catch what you were looking for very well.. did you have something else in mind, specifically?

Regards, Frank Coluccio

Check out WAVC. Their web page is waverider.com. This company headed by Bruce Sinclair thinks wireless lowband will catch a great deal of the internet access market in third world countries. These countries do not have, and can not afford a fiber optic infrastructure.
