Absolutely- I am not the one who a) has a problem with our history and b) wants to gloss over it. I think, like all countries, we have a history replete with all aspects of man. I find man, like all animals, interesting and beautiful. Of course I find certain aspects disturbing, but that does not necessarily make them ugly. And the fact that I am disturbed by certain things in our past, or by certain actions of historical figures. does not give me reason to wish to remain in ignorance nor does it make me despise said historical figures or my country.

When I say the truth is beautiful, I do not mean in the sense a painting is beautiful. I think we may be talking at cross purposes- as is so often the case here. By beauty I mean truth is highly satisfying to me. I like reading several contradictory views of an event- I feel no need to judge but try to hold on to as much of all accounts as I can. I find logic, and "truth" (well- as near as we can come to truth) to be highly desirable. Others here- take CH and his morning oatmeal- find the truth less palatable.
