Heard on a call-in finance help show from a lady who was looking for a way to pay off her husband's evidently hapless foray into margin investing. I didn't hear if he had taken a flyer in the dot-com stocks, but it sure fit the profile. Anyway, the financial show host told her to refinance the house and pull out whatever equity they could get to pay off the margin loan. Seems this yuppie started out with $150,000 position which decayed to $80,000. I couldn't help thinking that if I am hearing this stuff on talk radio that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Funny how the husband didn't call in-must be that old denial thing. The wife probably called in while he wasn't looking...
