I have discussed some of my views on the Y2K problem on this thread. I tend to think that the fears are greatly exaggerated, but I have still taken a defensive position in the market and I have prepared for shortages.

The fact is though, that even if most systems have the problem fixed (which I believe), there will be a significant slowdown in tech purchases from the period of Oct 1 through March 1. I believe that you will see some increased purchases in the tech sector going into October where organizations are trying to get as much accomplished in their systems before the lockdown. I also believe that the tech sectors will have great revenues after March 1 due to pent up demand.

With this, I can't see any real strength in the market until the Y2K uncertainties are alleviated.
