I think that's the point. McNealy has already been bending over backwards to give more "title clout" to Zander to keep him happy. There's only so many people you can do that with. And Zander, you'll notice, headed SunSoft on his way to heading the real crown jewel, the computer company.

With Baratz' resume as "the executive who started Java" (as opposed to the technical guy who started Java), he can write his own ticket. He can sit around as a VC and be on the boards of as many hot Internet startups as he wants (with stock in all of them), or he can take the CEOship of a hot startup, or he can just wait until a top job at an established corporation opens up, as Schmidt did.

An enviable position, one might say. Now what Zander & McNealy need to do is to get somebody from Microsoft in there. Paul Maritz doesn't have a lot to do these days! (Dream on...the stock would double overnight).
