Bill, if you want to read about that area you visited, I heartily recommend any of Peter Mayle's non-fiction books, starting with "A Year in Provence." I'm not positive, but Menerbes rings a bell so perhaps he visited there (or lived nearby?). Several of his fiction works are set in that area as well. He's an excellent writer and loves to describe the dining rituals and the french food, so don't attempt to read it on an empty stomach!
