Comparing U.S. stock market to Thailand stock market of two years ago?

Now, really. You can't even compare the U.S. stock market to the U.S. stock market of two years ago. Little day-trading then. Little electronic trading then.

I don't have time, either, to explain it in detail, but here's what I think:

I don't see what the big surprise is, about this sell-off. August has always brought a sell-off and most of us we're prepared for that. On top of that, tech stocks, especially internets, are very interest rate sensitive. The rate just went up and economists are publicly predicting further increases. Duh - tech stocks are selling off, especially internets. It's all exacerbated (in a historical sense) by the greater ease of closing positions with the explosion of electronic trading which has also created the phenomenon of "daytrading."

The good news is that all of this sets the stage for a better-then-ever buying opportunity. Speculative fever is not dead, it's only on summer vacation. If you doubt that, look at recent IPO activity such as Engage and Drugstore.com. A ton of money is waiting on the sidelines to re-enter this market big-time. When it comes after Labor Day, the techs, the internets, and eBay will be big beneficiaries.

Been there, seen that, too ... and this time it will be bigger and better then ever.
