Update: eMachines Continues Upward
Written by Matt Sargent, Senior Industry Analyst, PCs

In what has become the Cinderella story of the year, low-end PC manufacturer eMachines has surpassed industry giant IBM within the US market for retail desktop computers. eMachines, which starting selling its low-end desktops in November of last year, has rocketed to the number three position within US retail desktop sales inside of 10 months and recorded 11.8% market share in the month of June.

eMachines success has been bolstered by the overall movement to sub-$600 desktops, in which eMachines is solely focused. Sub-$600 desktops made up less than 1% of US retail desktop sales in September of last year, but have climbed to over 28% this June. eMachines has put itself in the right spot at the right time and is reaping the awards.
