Dresden Part II:

theregister.co.uk

I suspect that 1 Ghz volume will be by the middle of next year -- not the end.

It seems that AMD's technology alliance with MOT was the smartest thing they could have done.

Kap,

<Even at $100 ASP it totals to more that $1B per quarter from Dresden alone. And don't forget about FAB25 and non-CPU revenues.>

Anything even remotely close to $100 and I am out of here! MDR estimates K7 costs at $100+. It is probably a bit high but nonetheless, AMD doesn't have the cost structure to get to $100 on Athlon family (yet).

AMD's ability to win designs without dropping ASPs is one of the risks that AMD faces in the near term (until they get to units*ASP to absorb the overhead expenses).

Anyways, I just got in with a series of small buys in the 16 7/16 16 3/4 range. The position is tiny because I can't get myself to like the stock action. I looked for negative signs but can't find any - I don't see any selling on I-Watch (actually there seems to be a slight bias towards buying right now) so I guess retail investors are selling. Hard to tell if they selling because of margin calls or if there is some short-term negative data that we are not aware of.

We aren't yet out of the woods on the big ones like execution and ASP pressure from Intel as they try to retain some of the high-end sockets.

Cautiously optimistic,
Chuck

For all of you arithmetic fans out there: AMD is acting a little stronger on relatively stronger volume patterns. Could be very bullish but it is still much too early to tell.
