hi benny, not a bad article. But the author didn't really do his home work on a number of issues....mute I suppose.

But I did like this [blanket] comment:

While backed by Microsoft's software prowess and deep pockets, it faces an uphill climb because it only serves billers it can pay electronically.

If anyone is familiar with MS's crappy software they will see that the deep pockets don't matter anymore. If they can't get the software to work, nothing else matters.

BTW, I wonder how that WF pilot is going for TP? Still collecting dust?

The main bout is expected to pit stodgy banks against nimble Web portals. Banks are trustworthy money managers but glacial marketers. Portals are lightning-fast promoters but might struggle to earn the trust of consumers already leery of managing their money in cyberspace. That's more perception than reality. Banks, portals and brokerages all use the same third-party services to debit bank accounts and pay bills.

Yet banks worry they will become mere cash depositories if many consumers pay bills at portals, diminishing the need for checking accounts. Banks also would have fewer chances to tout mortgages and savings accounts. "You don't want to turn your brand over to a portal," says Wachovia Bank's Lawrence Baxter.

Don't

What Portals got to worry about? It's a land rush man! And it's the Banks Land everybody is gonna rush for!

CKFR did pretty well today, considering the continued vigor today of the internet blood-letting.
