I hadn't noticed that it was published in America, so I suppose I am mistaken...I thought that you might be interested, yes, because although it is not precisely typical, there is something very American about it, I think. Also, I think the issue of how to teach history is very interesting...The human memory is very strange, although I will note that Latin is an easier language to learn, with greater inflection and regularity, and a smaller range of literary idioms in use, due to the formality of the texts studied. English is much more dependent on syntax, is very irregular in usage and spelling, and is full of colloquialisms, even in literature....I think that your observation about the differing impact of Hemingway is very good...It would be funny to bedevil Cooke in that way<g>.....
