The Masons are a secret organization claiming ancient origins, probably originating during the Reformation. For a long time, there was hostility between them and Catholics, although that is not so much true any more. They profess to teach ancient wisdom, especially from the Egyptians and the Cabala, and from what I have seen it would be impossible for an orthodox Protestant to belong, although some do not see the contradiction. They have secret doctrines and ceremonies, although I have gotten hold of a Masonic handbook, and there is nothing lurid that I can see. They do give an awful lot to charity....

CK, there are other views of the Masons around, maybe wrong, maybe right only for Italy at a certain spot of time. As an interpretation of Masonic origin I heard it might be the crusades' era rather than the Reformation, but who knows ... Message 10639143 I want to say that I do not know about the truth of what Gustave hinted me on in that post, but that there was a documentary in state TV (thought to be bound on objectivity) lately to more or less the same effect. I know that political influence by P2 was a grand news topic in its time. The connection to the Vatican bank alleged here was not known to me. Nor any alleged connection to murder. The only self-alleged Mason I ever knew was a nice guy (aged 17). Regards MNI.
