Enron Broadband, Blockbuster To Deliver Entertainment-on-Demand

Broadband delivery company Enron Broadband Services signed a 20-year, exclusive agreement to deliver movies-on-demand for Blockbuster Video, part of a planned entertainment-on-demand service the video rental empire is planning. Blockbuster said the service will be expanded eventually to games and Internet services. Movies will be delivered through the Enron Intelligent Network in some U.S. cities by year end, and will be extended throughout the country and internationally in 2001. Enron Broadband is a wholly-owned subsidiary of utility and communications conglomerate Enron; Blockbuster is a subsidiary of Viacom. Initial providers of the service will be digital subscriber line (DSL) distributors; SBC Communications, Verizon, Qwest, Covad Communications, Telus and ReFlex have agreed to participate. Enron and Blockbuster said they will use other sorts of providers than DSL, which would likely include cable companies.
