Never try to catch a falling knife is pretty much applicable now.

However, if you look at the other telecoms, they are mostly down also. MFNX, LVLT, GBLX, T and WCOM are all suffering now as this sector, which was hot, is now ice cold.

Longer term, however, it should do nicely. I would nibble down here over the next few quarters once it settles out.

No reason to buy this stock until after the deal closes. It's too easy to short. Buy US West, short QWST. You pick up the US West dividend, until the deal closes capture the spread and pick up any downside on QWST. It's hard to lose. I imagine QWST won't go up unless they call off the deal, then shorts will scramble to cover.
