As was I. To spell it out: there is almost nothing indexed against the Dow. There is a ton of money indexed against the S&P, as well as a lot of 'closet indexing'. AOL has been in the S&P since January, and is still a major component of same. Almost all the indexed assets already own AOL; adding it to the Dow (which I doubt will happen soon, if ever) would give it plenty of publicity, and might therefore be associated with a pop -- but no assets of note MUST then buy it. -mb PS - nobody wins a flame war
