Today's drop is due to the herd mentality. Everyone sees the stock drop sharply and wonders if there is some fundamental reason for the stock to go down. Weak longs panic and sell before the mysterious bad news comes out. That leads to another round of selling and panic. You can feel the fear on the chat boards as shorts fuel the stupidity with vague rumors. I find it best to ignore this kind of movement in my stock holdings (or I buy if I have the money available). The drops will continue to an unreasonable degree until enough people realize that the world is not coming to an end. P.S. - Does anyone really believe that an increase in interest rates is going to stop people from getting eye surgery? Will everyone want to continue wearing glasses because the fed rate went up a quarter of a point? Will a competitor's dirty blades hurt VISX? Get real.
