I try not to overlook anything. I'm fully aware of the inherent limitations to a rotating magnetic or optical media, as well a the benefits of a sealed medium. CF is great, it is immune to many of the problems plagued by other storage devices. A 1GB CF card would rule the world. Chip prices have fallen incredibly over the years. Any instability in SEA and Taiwan in particular can change that in 1 day.

Is there room for competing technology ? Sure, that's what keeps everyone honest.

Sanyo has a new 50mm magneto-optical disk system that holds 730MB.
It's 20% smaller than a minidisc.

Like everything else, there are tradeoffs.
