How did people do today? I feel no elation at being all cash.

I can't shake the image of a lot of people getting burned who, like me, only wanted some kind of financial independence. Margin rates are the highest since 1971 and we all know what happened after that.

I think it's going to get worse, much worse, and a lot of people are going to be wiped out. Greenspan could achieve all his aims if, instead of raising interest rates, they raised margin requirements. Save a lot of people's bacon, too.

Max, I use the reverse psychology. That is, if we were in a big rally which had lasted weeks on end with no end in sight, would it be the time to buy? Not likely. It would be the time to short. If you had shorted AOL at 180 instead of 85 you would have made a killing.

Not that I did. ggg

No really, this bloody massacre has got to end. At least for a short while. It always does. Picking bottoms is tough and I only invested 25% of my buying power today on lows of the day mind you, but I'm ready for one more leg down if it must happen.

Frankly I wish I'd gotten out altogether a month ago but now that we'redown, I fight back. I least I didn't do any buying last week or until today.
