IMHO, the reported spot/contract prices and inventory conditions don't tell anything about the true state of the industry.
The large consumers of DRAM most likely have long term contracts with MFC, (Most Favored customer), pricing. I don't think the prices these guys pay are ever disclosed. They know exactly what the real situation is, and leverage their buying power to the hilt. I doubt if the big three DRAM suppliers dare fool around with their major customers. The only thing that can help the suppliers to these customers is truly constrained availability with product allocations. Moore's law is a barrier to achieving this.
