Kinetic unveils 4-stroke bike with Hyosung technology hyosungmotors.co.kr kineticindia.com (hursday, August 5, 1999) BS Motoring Desk in Mumbai Kinetic Engineering Ltd yesterday announced the launch of a 4-stroke motorcycle range in technical collaboration with South-Korean firm Hyosung Motors, an arm of Hyosung Corporation. The Rs 9,060-crore Hyosung Corporation, established in 1957, is one of the top ten South Korean conglomerates with diversified portfolio, including textiles, chemicals, metals and lumber trading, industrial projects, information technology and vehicles and transportation. The collaboration of Kinetic and Hyosung involves the transfer of technology, spares, and engineering support. The two models to be launched in the country in another six months, the 12 bhp GF 125cc and GF 150cc, are popular in Korea and feature 4-stroke, 4-valve engines. The 4-valve engine is among the first of its kind in a motorcycle in the country. It will also have disc brakes and cast alloy wheels, among other additional features. Sulajja Motwani, joint managing director, Kinetic Engineering, refused to divulge the price of the vehicles. However, according to a source, the motorbikes would be priced in the Rs 45,000-50,000 range. The vehicles will also feature box type dual cradle chassis, designed to reduce vibration and jerks with an even distribution of load. Hyosung Motors , formerly a trading firm for Honda, has over the years developed into an independent manufacturer of motorbikes and other two-wheelers. The company has, at present, a technological tie-up with Suzuki and the Japanese major provides the technological know-how to Hyosung for their two-wheelers. Meanwhile, Kinetic also unveiled its new range of two-wheelers, which it plans to unveil in around October. The range includes 100cc motorbikes, step-ins, and mopeds. Kinetic recorded sales of 1,60,292 vehicles in the year 198-99. This is the company's maiden thrust into the highly competitive 100 to 150cc motorcycle segment. With Hero Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki already being well-established players, Kinetic and Hyosung will have an onerous task. The company's other two-wheeler models include the Luna, Safari and Marvel.
