<Picture>Taiwan urges calm over increased cross-strait sorties

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taiwan's Air Force urged people to keep their calm Thursday
after increased sorties by Chinese and Taiwanese military planes over
the Taiwan Strait, saying the level of activity was not ''abnormal''
and did not pose any threat to security.
Maj.-Gen. Jen Yu-sheng, Air Force vice chief-of-staff, also said
there was no need for unnecessary speculation concerning the
military's preparatory exercises for a large-scale air show Aug. 14
that will force the temporary closure of civilian airports in
Kaohsiung and Pingtung four to five times this month from 9:50 a.m.
to 10:40 a.m.
