Here is an article on metasearch engines that I remember reading months ago. At the time, it brought my attention to Dogpile, an engine I hadn't heard of. I researched further and found a great article on metacrawler and dogpile having a monopoly on metasearches on the net, and how this technology was far superior to any of the search engines employed by yahoo, excite etc. If I can find it again (been looking for an hour) I'll post it.

Despite these minor drawbacks, meta search engines offer a powerful way to search the Web. Here are a few of the better meta search engines available.

Quality Meta Search Engines
Dogpile
The rather unusually named Dogpile searches 26 major search sites, including Usenet newsgroups, ftp sites for file downloads, newswires for current headlines, and business news from several sources. It starts with the large indexes and general purpose directories, and gradually moves through smaller, more specific sources. If you like, you can even select and save the order of the searches so your favorite indexes and directories are searched first.

Dogpile searches 3 sites at a time. Results from each search engine are grouped together, with the descriptions provided by each site. At the bottom of the results list is a button that continues your search with the next three search engines.

MetaCrawler
MetaCrawler sends your query to most of the major search engines and directories, and then combines the results in a single list, eliminating duplicates.

Unlike the other meta search engines reviewed here, MetaCrawler sums the scores given by each service it uses, and presents them in a "voted" ordering, with the score (from 1 to 1000) presented in bold type next to each result.

You can customize MetaCrawler to use your favorite search engines, increase or decrease the results per page and per source, set the timeout duration you're willing to wait for results to be returned, and limit the domains that are searched.

websearch.about.com

go2net's metasearch engine was the reason I first invested in gnet last September. So now we own two of the top metasearch engines on the web, bringing an enormous number of eyeballs to our site.

and with the newswires for current headlines, and business news from several sources

This looks like the answer to all our recent requests. Now I will no longer need to go to Yahoo to have all my stock headlines collected in one place, or to the Excite page for my weather reports. This is just what we've been asking for!
Another great purchase guys!
