Can anyone throw more light on the write up in NP today...

Portfolio Manager was quoted as saying " there has been some concern about ATI's acquisition of Chromatic Research last fall. Investors have penalized ATI's stock over concerns that the acquisition will not add directly to its revenue for some time. This has muddied the waters for ATI and we expect the company to clarify its strategy in the fall"

What are the issues with the acquisition??

ATI RAGE XL Graphics Chip Selected by eMachines For Its New ''eOne'' PC

ATI's value graphics accelerator used in the latest model from eMachines, a major PC market success story

TORONTO, Aug. 11 /CNW-PRN/ - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT) announced today that the ATI RAGE XL graphics accelerator is being used in the
new eOne PC recently introduced by eMachines, Inc.

The RAGE XL is ATI's value graphics chip, delivering high quality, full 2X AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) acceleration, and best-of-class graphics and multimedia
performance ideal for the low-cost PC market segment.

The ATI RAGE XL is matched in the integrated design of the eOne PC with an Intel Celeron 433MHz processor and Wintel-based multimedia technology, to deliver exciting
multimedia and gaming action, as well as Internet video streaming.

''ATI's emphasis on value and reliability, in addition to delivering great performance, has made our graphics accelerators the number one choice in the low cost PC market,''
said Ed Grondahl, vice president of product marketing, ATI Technologies Inc. ''eMachines has become a dominant player in the retail desktop market in an incredibly short
period of time, and the new eOne, featuring ATI's RAGE XL, will no doubt add a further chapter to this remarkable success story.''

ATI's RAGE XL: class-leading graphics and video performance, at highly
competitive price points
The RAGE XL couples class-leading 3D and 2D acceleration with DVD as part

of the integrated graphics subsystem. With a flexible memory configuration and
support for 4MB or 8MB of SDRAM and SGRAM, the RAGE XL is pin compatible with
the ATI RAGE 128 graphics chip, enabling OEMs to pursue highly cost-effective
chip migration and product transition strategies, particularly in the
Build-to-Order (BTO) market.
