actually you'd want your email address to be at some neutral place. Say xyz@usa.net(amex mail), abc@hotmail.com(but that's msft) or qrs@yahoo.com. It becomes a fixed address and youre not stuck with a certain ISP. In my case I still use my alumni acct. from my alam mater. Obviously msft would need to spend some dough on infrastructure, support personnel etc. etc. Nothing insuperable.
MSFT has not succeeded because they have not had the need to venture seriously outside the software arena to maintain their growth. Now they are at a crossroads, to maintain growth in a 500 billion $ company they need to start thinking telecomm, interactive TV, cable and a bigger presence in the international mkts. msft(my 3rd biggest holding) is seriously getting in the interactive TV market(they have licensed technology from my biggest holding GMST). The initial attack is through web-tv but they are beginning to form an axis with T/TCOMA etc. as well as through direct investment in other cable companies. AOL is late to the party on this one--they too have licensed tech. from GMST but only 2 months ago so their AOL-TV initiative would not have the advantage. For me its a wait and see...
