Some interesting comments about the industry.

Imaging technology companies stand at a crossroads today, said Peter Besen, general manager of Oak's imaging group, as standalone analog copiers rapidly give way to digital multifunction systems — integrated copier/scanner/printer machines. Partly driven by Internet technology, many printer/copier manufacturers consider it crucial to achieve two goals: connectivity among office-automation machines and high-resolution color reproduction.

The new machines are so complex, Sohn said, that "office automation equipment companies have begun to outsource their technologies more than ever before."
