Steve, I agree. For millions of people like me, though, there is more at stake than just the access fee. The services provided with the ISP are important. For example I rely on AOL for much of my news and sports information which is very neatly organized and presented. People get addicted to these sorts of conveniences.

However, MSN provides a comparable service to AOL and if they can do it at 1/2 the price, I, for one, will switch.

Steve,
Your, "I believe phone, cable TV, and internet access will soon all be provided through the big Telecoms, thus significantly increasing efficiency and allowing prices to fall considerably while maintaining margins. The successful players will create new revenues via increasingly growing subscriber bases and other avenues."

And what do you think will happen to IDTC and NTOP while "the big Telcoms" consolidate and race to capture a larger share the "growing subscriber base"?

I'm sorry you took the tone of my post personally. It was not intended to be. However, like many on this thread, most of your suspicions are based on what I consider shorter term concerns. I believe you, and many others here, are losing sight of the overall long term objective.
Jules
